The most significant event of the day to my mom was a piece of meat. Specifically, a sirloin steak at the Brazen Bull, a small diner off I-70 next to an abandoned hotel. According to her, she could taste the care of the chef in the meat. Even cooked at well-done, the beef was still tender. When we asked, our blonde waitress told us that this meat was “very local” - I’m imagining a cut from one of the numerous cows grazing on the fields as we drove through Kansas.
While we drove across the hills turning into plains, my mom remarked on this steak several times. The grass became small spiky plants across acres of gravel, and my mom said this steak was the only time she had truly enjoyed a steak in her decades in the United States. We drove into grey clouds gathering on the horizon, and the wind turned into rain which turned into snow. While driving through a blizzard, my mom was still thinking about this steak, even as someone who doesn’t normally enjoy meat.
A shoutout to the Brazen Bull (https://the-brazen-bull.business.site/).

This is a small town in a countryside, and people here seem know each other, except us. but the movie on the TV was showing one of Jackie Chen's move.

Nice restaurant! Steak looks delicious! The owner might be a kung fu fan 😁
